Announcement regarding Diocesan Leadership:
At the Standing Committee meeting held 09/18/09, Bishop Howe asked the members of the Committee to assume their canonical responsibility of searching for the next Bishop of West Missouri. This process normally takes between twelve and eighteen months before a new Bishop is ordained/consecrated. While the Standing Committee is in charge of this search process, all members of the Diocese will have an opportunity to be involved in it.
Bishop Howe's intention is to resign as diocesan Bishop at the time of the ordination/consecration of the next Bishop. He will therefore continue to minister as your Bishop until then to the best of his ability and with the grace of the Lord.
Bishop Howe believes it is time for the Diocese to have new, fresh, and younger leadership. He will be 67 in November, and is in his 43rd year of ordained ministry. Following his resignation, Bishop Howe will seek to be helpful where he might serve in a more reduced capacity.It is Bishop Howe's hope that all of you will be actively involved in the search process, and be very clear about what you think is essential in the selection and election of a new Bishop.
In light of swine flu outbreak, churches consider procedures

[Episcopal News Service] As health officials around the world monitor an outbreak of swine flu that has killed more then 150 people in Mexico and spread to six other countries, Episcopal churches are examining liturgical practices and reviewing emergency plans.
